Hi there, it’s your chiropractor for headaches here in Cape Girardeau, MO. All right, today we’re
gonna talk headaches, and I know this is a big one for a lot of people and it’s super frustrating and it really jams up your life and your schedule.
I suffered with migraines for years and as an athlete and just as a person, it was always in the back of my mind, no matter what we were doing is my fear that today was gonna be one of those days.
And if you suffer with headaches in particular, but migraines specifically, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Because no matter what you’re doing, you could be on vacation, you could be out to dinner, you could be at a birthday party, you could be at a game, and it’s always lingering there, like you’re just wondering like:
“Okay, is today gonna be the day that this hits,” because you never know.
And so if you’re someone like that, I get it.
And so what I want to be able to do is just help you have a better understanding as to why these headaches are happening, but more importantly, get away from them and what we know about all types of headaches is that there’s a neurological portion.
We often know sometimes there’s a nutritional portion and a lot of times the toxins that we’re exposed to every single day of our life also can be triggers to these headaches.
The biggest one we’re gonna focus on for right at this moment is just the neurological piece and I will tell you this, the stress in our lives is very big when it comes to headaches, the physical stress is probably the one we think about the most because of the repetitions, the wear and tear, the overused, the screen time, the accidents, the trauma of the sports.
But I will tell you right now, I feel like the biggest stressor that our body has to deal with that usually will represent itself as a headache is the emotional stress.
And so we just have to be aware that all types of stress affect us and all types of stress matter. And when those stresses get overwhelming to your body, it will create massive amounts of inflammation and it will manifest as a symptom.
And for a person like you and I, it just tends to be headaches.
So neurologically the area that we’re gonna focus on the most is gonna be right here at the very, very upper part of your spine, right underneath the skull.
There’s lots of muscles here that get way too tight and get very stiff and don’t allow for proper range of motion and it really will just shift these bones completely out of position.
Neurologically that causes all kinds of trouble, it can also affect vasculature.
If we’re talking about tension headaches or sinus headaches or allergies, they’re all still coming from this same neurological base here, when it comes to your spine.
Migraines in particular, same area, but a little bit different influence.
Your brain sits right here and then underneath you have your brainstem, we’ll call it like right here where this metal piece is and in there’s the trigeminal nerve.
Nearly every migraine that someone has is an activation to that trigeminal nerve that’s manifesting as a migraine.
So for us, we want to make sure we’re doing everything we can structurally to keep this clear, so that interference doesn’t happen.
And then that’s where we also, we can start to peel back the onion into other areas of your life to figure out where the things may be coming from.
So if you’re like me and if you’re like most of our patients that deal with headaches. And so many of our patients that come in (and that’s how we meet them) it really comes down to trying to understand you as an individual.
What you’ve been through, your past history in regards to physical traumas, but also kind of your whole story so we can get a better understanding and start connecting the dots.
The headaches are miserable, but they’re not actually the problem.
The headaches just let us know there’s an underlying issue that needs to be identified and that’s our job.
So we’ll be able to sit down with you, we’ll be able to figure that out.
We’ll be able to help you to come up with a doable plan that will not only structurally get you where you need to be and give your body more adaptability, we’re also gonna be able to talk through other areas of lifestyle that we can help you really get underneath these and help you to move away from them completely.
I know for some of you, you don’t even believe that’s possible.
But we can get to the root cause, the body can heal, and that’s what we’re here to do and so we’re glad to help you do that and walk that journey with you.
And just because of my experience with them, I’ve got like a special place in my heart for people with headaches and migraines specifically.
And so it’s our job every single day to help you get rid of those symptoms and get back to life.
